Unifi reports device has excellent connection, it has received it's DHCP reservation IP and there is no packet loss from a ping.
Currently these devices have full outbound access through the router and initially they did connect and register in the cloud.

Thank you with your help. It appears the device has just appeared back in the application. I'll report back if it disappears again.

Still working ok. I noticed the Supla website said it was under maintenance this morning, perhaps that was it.

I also got them working with Alexa. I resisted uninstalling the Alexa app and reinstalling but that fixed things in case anyone else has the issue.

Meanwhile, back on topic... I've had a reply from Varilight to say they were having a meeting this afternoon discussing the issues I've had.

Hi,

Really appreciate this post and I would like to hear the responses when they come through.

I've just had varilight dimmers put everywhere in the house. Some work perfectly but a fair few have all of the same issues described by David C. All lights have the same hardware, firmware, installation setup and where done by a reliable and qualified professional.

I read some stuff about current fluctuations and having capacitors on in a Reddit thread so may give that a go if nothing else is suggested.

Thanks

I've had my dimmers since 2022 and experienced the same problems outlined by others in this thread. Has any progress been made?

My biggest complaint is that the devices hang and do no reconnect to wifi if they drop out (I assume due to interference) with the only way I can get them to work is by power cycling at the consumer unit. These are connected to Ubiquity APs and the drop out happens regular (roughly once a week):

I've tried replacing the effected units but they still exhibit the same issue. Mine are all on the (latest?) firmware 2.8.55.

I've also experienced the other problems as outlined in this thread where the dimmers will on occasion reset when used and turn themselves up-down. At one point one of the dimmers in our bedroom would randomly turn on and reset in the middle of the night and I traced this to a bathroom ceiling pull switch.

I've played with Espressif ESP32 devices from a hobby perspective before and know how terrible their wifi firmware is, so can see why this might be a difficult thing to fix. Can it not be resolved with a device watchdog and reset mechanism that doesn’t turn on the light if it's already been configured? I also think that the reset issue, if it is related to electrical noise / momentary low voltage / high current draw should really be addressed with a new hardware revision that is more resilient. I wouldn't expect any other device to do this.

This is a real shame as I really like Supla and that Varilight used an ESP8266, I've even developed a light alarm clock using one of the dimmers and the API, so really don’t want to get rid of them.

Hi,
glad to hear I'm not alone, despite Varilight support saying it is only me reporting these issues...

I still randomly have issues with lights turning on or off when the bathroom light pull switch is used. Usually Bedroom 1 & Stair light, but sometimes Bedroom 2 too.
The last time was just before Christmas and on that occasion Bedroom 1 & Stair lights turned off and Bedroom 2 lights went to 100% when the Bathroom light was turned off.

I had issues in the Kitchen with the lights going off when the fan oven door was opened. I've since replaced the cooker and the new one doesn't have a door switch, so doesn't have the same issue triggering the lights.

Did you replace your bathroom pull switch?

I also see similar issues.

The dimmers occasionally disconnect from supla - usually once a week or so - but there doesn't seem to be any pattern to when this happens. Manually pressing the dimmer button usually triggers a reset and it reconnects.

Less frequently (maybe every few months) I also have to power cycle them using the consumer unit.

Edit: also I had Varilight LEDFix modules added to most of the dimmers a while back, but doesn't seem to have improved anything (other than being able to dim them lower)
